The Bridgeport caretaker said the money was for roofing work he did on the man’s New Jersey home, police said. However, the story fell apart after officers discovered that the now-deceased elderly man had sold the N.J. home three years before meeting the suspect,, police said.
Joshimar Craig Russell, 27, of 207 Beechwood Ave., was arrested and charged with third-degree forgery, identification theft, second-degree making a false statement, third-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.
Police said the victim, who is now deceased, had first met Russell after moving to the Greens in Cannondale, where Russell worked as a caretaker for the elderly man.
The elderly man was physically and mentally unable to write checks, police said, and his sons had power of attorney for his affairs.
Russell’s bond was set at $3,000. He is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Friday.
