Troopers conducted a traffic stop of Danbury resident Alvaro Matias on Route 6 in Southeast, N.Y. after he was spotted by patrol moving his vehicle unsafely from lane to lane and crossing hazardous markings on the roadway, police said.

During the subsequent stop, troopers reported that they spotted what appeared to be crack cocaine in the vehicle. Further investigation determined that Matias was intoxicated at the time of the stop, and was in possession of 15 small bags of crack cocaine and 17 small bags of cocaine.

Matias was arrested at the scene and charged with a felony count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.

After being arraigned in the Town of Southeast Justice Court, Matias was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 property bond. Matias is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
