Kayla Mooney of Danbury was charged with second-degree sexual assault and distributing alcohol to a minor, police said in a statement. She was released on a promise to appear in court on April 14.
The arrest stems from an investigation conducted by the Danbury Police Department's Special Victims Unit.
Danbury High School administrators first reported the incident to police on Feb. 10. An investigation was conducted and a warrant was granted by a state Superior Court judge in Danbury. Mooney turned herself in to police Tuesday evening.
Mooney was placed on administrative leave by the district in February after allegations that she had engaged in inappropriate conduct with a male student, according to the News Times.
Mooney remains on paid leave,according to the News Times.
Minutes from a Danbury Board of Education from last fall include Mooney on a list of new hires. She listed as a chemistry teacher for Danbury High.
An online Prezi document for the open house at Danbury High School lists her classes as chemistry and physics. In it, Mooney says she grew up in Danbury and attended North Dakota State University and Western Connecticut State University.
