Man Charged With Stealing From Wilton Group Home Where He Worked

WILTON, Conn. -- Wilton police arrested a New Milford man on charges of stealing from the special needs residents at a Wilton group home where he worked, police said.

Willis Anthony Howell, 29, of 8 Canterbury Arms was arrested March 18 and charged with six counts of third-degree forgery and four counts of second-degree larceny, police said.

He posted $1,500 bond and was released to make his first appearance in state Superior Court in Stamford on Monday.

Police said Howell began working at the group home in October 2014 and was responsible for the residents' finances and well-being. However, he stole from the residents by submitting false receipts and invoices and by withdrawing money from their checking accounts, police said.

He is also accused of using employer-issued credit cards for his own use instead of for the residents, police said. Police issued a warrant for his arrest in December.

Police didn’t detail the amount of money he is suspected of stealing in the case.
