WILTON, Conn. — A 30-year-old Brookfield man was arrested in Wilton on Monday evening and charged with shoplifting and drug possession after an attempted larceny was reported at Rings End Lumber, police said.

Officers were called to the store, 129 Danbury Road, at about 5 p.m. The suspect, later identified as Michael Cestari, fled on foot and headed south on Route 7 after he was confronted by store employees, police said.

A police K-9 tracked Cestari’s scent to Cube Smart, 111 Danbury Road, where employees said they spotted a suspicious male not long before the officers arrived, the police report said. In reviewing Cube Smart’s surveillance, officers obtained a description of the car Cestari was driving.

The car was later stopped in the parking lot at 60 Danbury Road. Employees from Rings End arrived and identified Cestari as the suspect, the police report said. A subsequent search of the car turned up a laptop computer, which was determined to be stolen from the Wal-Mart in Norwalk, and a power drill, stolen from Rings End, police said.

A vial labeled as an anabolic steroid was also found in the car, along with used and unused syringes, police said.

Cestari was charged with fifth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on $2,500 bond and is due in Norwalk Superior Court on April 25.
