At around 9:18 p.m. an officer saw a car driven by 51-year-old Brian Gerard driving on the wrong side of the road on Old Stamford Road and pulled him over, police said. After talking with Gerard, the officer noticed the odor of alcohol and had Gerard perform a field sobriety test, which he failed, according to police.
The officer noticed that Gerard was not cooperating with instructions and kept putting his hands in his pockets, police said. The officer asked him if he had any weapons and Gerard said he didn't, but a pat down uncovered a loaded Walter PPKS in a holster in Gerard's front pocket, police said. Gerard did have a permit for the gun, according to police.
After the gun was secured, the officer continued with the field sobriety tests, which Gerard failed. He was taken into custody and transported to headquarters, where he refused a blood alcohol test, police said.
Gerard was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive right, and carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was released on a $3,250 bond and will appear in court on April 20.
