In December of 2016, Westport Police responded to a Newtown Turnpike home on a report of stolen checks. The victim said that multiple checks had been taken from his checkbook and cashed, police said. They had all been made out to "CASH" and had his signature forged on them, according to police. The total loss was $1,900.
Police said that the victim reported that a handyman named Ralph had access to the interior of his house. Detectives learned that the checks had been deposited to a Bank of American account connected to 60-year-old Ralph Esposito of Norwalk, according to police.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Esposito, and he was taken into custody while appearing at court in Norwalk on Friday. He was charged with fourth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery, and held on a $15,000 bond. He was arraigned the same day.
Esposito is facing similar charges in Stamford, where the family of a deceased woman told police that Esposito had taken checks from her right before her death and forged her signature to steal $2,850.
