A Norwalk woman called police Aug. 15 to report she suspected her boyfriend of abusing her son, police said. Daniel Brown, 42, of Washington Street, was released from jail earlier this summer after serving one month for domestic violence, according to court records. The victim said she had allowed Brown to return to their home out of fear that he might cause property damage if she did not, according to the police report.

The woman told police she suspected that Brown had been abusing her 3-year-old son, police said. Brown would flick the ears of the child because he “did not think he was tough enough,” according to her report. She also discovered bruises on the boy’s lower back and buttocks, police said.

Brown was arrested Aug. 15 on a charge of a violation of a protective order, according to court records. He has been in police custody since that arrest, police said.

Norwalk Police investigated the claims, and interviewed Brown in prison last month, according to police records. During those interviews, Brown admitted to having hit the child, police said Thursday.

Brown was arrested on a warrant Wednesday morning and charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and cruelty to a person. He was held on $90,000 bond, and was arraigned Wednesday.
