Avidan Leyva, 61, was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was held on $10,000 bond and will appear in court Aug. 7.
Police were called to Norwalk Hospital shortly after midnight Tuesday on a report of a stabbing. When officers got there, they spoke to a 17-year-old who said he had been stabbed by his girlfriend's grandfather, according to police reports.
The teen told police that his girlfriend had sneaked him into her room late Monday night. Her grandfather, Leyva, then came in with a knife, saying he heard somebody there, according to police reports.
The boyfriend hid from Leyva behind curtains and later behind a bed before he was eventually discovered, police said. Leyva asked who he was, and when the boyfriend said he would leave, he told police Leyva lunged at him with the knife and stabbed him in the arm. He and his girlfriend then left the house and went to the hospital, police said.
When officers went to the home, they found Leyva there. He told police that he had gotten into an argument with the boyfriend because he was not supposed to be there. Leyva said that he had a kitchen knife in his hand and the boyfriend grabbed it, cutting his hands, according to police reports.
Officers discovered the knife, as well as a bloodied rag and a pool of blood near the granddaughter's bed, police said. Leyva was then taken into custody.
