Police Identify Driver Killed In Fiery Crash Of Pickup In New Fairfield

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. — State police have identified the driver who was killed in the fiery crash of a pickup truck early Sunday in New Fairfield.

The fatal crash occurred on Route 39, just past the center of New Fairfield but before Candlewood Lake.

Ulysses A. Nunez, 42, of New York City, was pronounced dead the scene of the accident, which happened at about 12:50 a.m. Sunday at 85 Route 39, state police said. 

The pickup was traveling south when Nunez lost control, police said. The truck slammed into a utility pole and burst into flames. 

The accident occurred at Saw Mill Road near the ICONS Sports Bar.

The passenger, a 45-year-old man from Rochester, N.Y., was taken by New Fairfield EMS to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries, state police said. 

Route 39 was closed until about 4 p.m. Sunday due to the fatal crash, First Selectman Susan Chapman said. The road had been closed at Saw Mill Road since the accident overnight and into the afternoon on Sunday. 

State police were continuing to investigate the crash and did not release any further details.
