State tests performed on the pit bull—which was killed by police—show the dog was not infected with rabies, Lt. Donald Wakeman said. It was still unknown what triggered the attack, because police have not yet been able to interview the victim, Anne Murray, who is recovering at Norwalk Hospital.
“We could not speak with her today,” Wakeman said in an email Thursday. “We are going to try again tomorrow.”
Murray, of 77 Range Road, lost her left arm and part of her right arm in the attack, police said.
Police were called to Murray’s home at about 11:30 a.m. Monday after a passing motorist reported the attack. Capt. John Lynch, the first responding officer, found Murray hiding underneath a car in her driveway in an attempt to protect herself from the dog, police said.
After determining the dog was a threat, Lynch shot and killed the animal, police said.
The dog that attacked Murray lived with her and her twin 26-year-old sons, police said. She was home alone at the time of the attack.
Wakeman on Wednesday said no criminal charges were expected to be filed. However, until police are able to interview Murray about what happened, the investigation is incomplete, he said.
