Police: Westport K-9 Finds Drugs, Grinder In Darien Man's Car

WESTPORT, Conn. — A Darien driver faces drug charges after he was stopped by Westport Police Saturday night on Post Road East, police said.

Mark Smeland, 23, of Oak Crest, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after K-9 Atlas detected about 16 grams of marijuana in a backpack in his car, police said.

Officers also found a grinder, police said.

Smeland was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on May 17, police said.
