The incident happened around 1:10 p.m. Tuesday when the 3-year-old girl fell from the window at the Fairfield Apartments on Morgan Street, said Sgt. Brian Butler.

When police arrived on scene they found the little girl had been playing by the window in a second-story apartment while being watched by her partially-blind grandmother, Butler said.

Butler said the child opened the window and fell into the "freshly mulched" area near the parking lot.

Even though the apartment was is located on the second floor, it's a four-to-five-level drop to the parking lot area, Butler said.

Butler said that at the time of the report, the hospital was still waiting for some test results, but it appeared the child was going to be okay and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation is being conducted regarding the care the girl was receiving and the state Department of Children and Families was notified of the fall, Butler added.
