Wilton Family Business Donates for Police Dog

WILTON, Conn. – With the help of a substantial donation from the animal food company Blue Buffalo, the Wilton Police Department can bring back its canine unit .

The company , owned by Wilton residents William Bishop and his two sons, Chris and Billy Bishop, donated $50,000 to the project. The Police Department said in a statement it would not have been able to restart the program without the donation. The department hasn't had a canine unit for about 15 years.

Officer Stephen Rangel was chosen as the new police canine handler after an extensive testing process. Rangel will attend a nine-week training program later this summer to work with the new dog. Once complete, he will be on duty with the dog as part of his normal patrol duties.

During a meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Wilton Town Hall, Bishop will present a check to the Wilton Police Department; the public is welcome to attend.
