Garcia, 47, appeared in Stamford Superior Court Tuesday morning to answer charges of first-degree larceny and first-degree unlawful restraint. Garcia was arrested Dec. 31 by Wilton Police after spending several weeks at Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of facial injuries.
A judge ordered Garcia to return to court on Feb. 19. He was also ordered to be monitored electronically by the state Department of Probation and will have to stay in New Haven County except for his court appearances. He has also been restricted from contacting his wife, Michelle, 39.
The Stamford Court public defender’s office has been appointed as his counsel, an official with the Stamford Court Clerk’s office said.
Police said the incident took place Nov. 26 when the couple struggled over a hunting rifle in an upstairs bedroom.
