However, Anne Murray— of 77 Range Road— was still not well enough to be interviewed about the attack, Lt. Donald Wakeman said. As such, police do not know what led to the attack—and whether charges would be filed in the case.
“As far as criminal charges being filed, although not anticipated at this point, the investigation is not complete and we hope to learn further information once we are able to interview the victim,” Wakeman said in an email to The Wilton Daily Voice on Wednesday.
Police were called to Murray’s home at about 11:30 a.m. Monday after a passing motorist reported the attack. Capt. John Lynch, the first responding officer, found a seriously injured Murray hiding underneath a car in her driveway in an attempt to protect herself from the dog, police said. After determining the dog was a threat, Lynch shot and killed the animal, police said.
The gruesome attack is unlike any other reported in town in recent history, Wakeman said.
“I am not aware of a dog attack this vicious occurring in Wilton during the 26 years that I have been with the police department,” he said.
The dog that attacked Murray lived with her and her twin 26-year-old sons, police said. The attack occurred while Murray was home alone.
The pit bull, Wakeman said, was sent to a state lab to be tested for rabies. The test results were not ready Wednesday, he said.
