WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Police Department will host an eight-week citizen police academy beginning on Thursday, Sept.15.

The program, which is offered free-of-charge, is open to people who live and work in the town.

The course will be held on Thursdays from 7-9:30 p.m. and will include classes on patrol procedures, the Detective Division and specialty units.

Other topics will include youth crimes, motor vehicle enforcement and weapons, along with the practical skills and technology utilized in modern law enforcement.

Space in the program is limited to 15 participants.

Eight of the slots have already been filled.
