Jesse Sheldon was arrested Friday night after police responded to his Chestnut Hill Road home on a reported domestic dispute, police say. The incident turned out to be a verbal argument between Sheldon and his wife, police said, and no charges were filed.

However, while at the home, police learned that Sheldon let the family’s 15 birds— ducks and chickens—  starve to death, according to police report.

“[Sheldon] admitted that he had stopped feeding the birds as he could no longer maintain the responsibility of caring for them,” Lt. Don Wakeman said.

Sheldon was charged with 15 counts of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor, and released after posting $7,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 16.
