WILTON, Conn. -- Wilton Police Sgt. Thomas Tunney was given the 2013 New England Association of Chiefs of Police Medal of Valor after pulling a man from a burning vehicle in October 2012.
Tunney, a 28-year veteran of the police department, approached a burning vehicle in a wooded area and made repeated attempts to pull the unconscious man before finally succeeding.
The Medal of Valor award is given out once a year recognizing an accomplishment throughout the New England region.
Tunney was honored with the medal last month in Plymouth, Mass., at the New England Association Chiefs of Police Training Conference banquet.
