WILTON, CONN. -- If you should happen to look up from your second margarita while dining in Wilton in November and see a police officer stop by your table, don’t panic – tip him.

Local officers will be waiting on customers at the Cactus Rose Restaurant and Tequila Bar from 6-10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, and donating the money that they make to charity.

The annual "Tip-a-Cop" event will benefit Special Olympics of Connecticut, an organization that provides year-round sports training and competitions for more than 14,000 folks with intellectual disabilities and their non-disabled teammates.

It brings those with -- and without -- intellectual disabilities together to play sports, get physically fit and develop friendships, according to the group’s website.

The program is offered at more than 190 schools around the state to students from the pre-kindergarten level through high school.

The Special Olympics is more than just sports, the organization says, it is “a movement that transforms lives by inspiring inclusion, understanding and respect for people of all abilities, both on the playing field and in communities throughout the state.”

Cactus Rose, which features Latin American dishes, is in the Wilton River Park Shopping Center at 5 River Road. To reach the restaurant, call (203)-762-8484.
