Officers were called the Duchess restaurant on Main Street at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday on reports of a fight occurring in the drive-through lane, police said. One man later told police that he had approached another car in the drive-through line to discuss an ongoing argument with a man in that car, according to police reports.
The two men told officers they had mutually apologized and ended their fight, police said. But they said a pair of women with one of the men had gotten into a verbal argument with another woman inside one of the cars, police said.
Officers attempted to pull one of the women away from the car when Leda Weldon, 46, of Norwalk punched the officer in the temple and knocked him to the ground, police said.
Weldon continued to punch the officer until another officer arrived to pull her off, and Weldon then began punching the intervening officer, according to the arrest report. The two officers worked together to bring Weldon to her feet and place her in handcuffs, police said.
One officer later reported swelling around his temple area and scratches along the left side of his face as a result of the fight, police said. The other officer reported having a split lower lip, according to the police report.
Weldon was charged with two counts of assault on a peace office and one count of breach of the peace. Her bond was set at $20,000, and she is due in court on March 14.
The other woman involved, 27-year-old Jessica Jackson of Merwin Street, continued to yell obscenities and struggle with police during the arrest, according to police reports. She was arrested as well and taken to police headquarters, police said.
Jackson was charged with interfering with police and breach of the peace. She was released after posting $475 bond, and is also due in court March 14.
