FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Just as President Barack Obama was visiting the state Wednesday, his approval numbers in Connecticut hit their lowest ever, according to a new poll.

Connecticut voters give Obama a negative 45 percent to 51 percent approval rating, his lowest score ever in the state, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday, March 4.

There is a wide gender gap, with men disapproving 57 percent to 40 percent while women are divided, with 49 percent approving and 47 percent disapproving, the poll said.

Obama's score is very low among Republicans in the state, with the president getting a negative 7 percent to 92 percent from Republicans, the poll said.

He does not fare much better from independent voters, with a negative outcome of 38 percent to 57 percent.

Democrats give the president a large approval score, however, with the poll showing an 80 percent to 16 percent rating.

Obama gets a lukewarm 49 percent to 43 percent approval from voters ages 18 to 29 and negative grades among older voters, the poll said.
