Wilton Lawmakers Hold Successful Office Hours

WILTON, Conn. -- State Reps. Gail Lavielle (R-143) Tom O’Dea (R-125) and state Sen. Toni Boucher (R-26) came together to host “Coffee with Your Legislators” Wilton at Orem’s Diner in Wilton on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

The legislators provided about 40 residents with an overview of the upcoming session, answered their questions about economic issues and the state’s fiscal condition, and listened to their concerns about the community.

“The number of constituents who came to speak with us, including many who had not attended an event with local state legislators in recent years, made it clear that people are focusing more on state issues, and particularly on how the state's deficit, unfunded liabilities, and deteriorating infrastructure affect their daily lives," Lavielle said in a statement.

"They are worried not only about the recent tax increases, but also about those to come as the state deficit continues to grow. Many are considering moving out of state, but at the same time are worried about the declining value of their property.”

O'Dea welcomed the opportunity to better understand the issues weighing on his constituents' minds.

“From the recent announcement that GE is leaving for Boston, to the troubles that have plagued our DMV for the past year, there are a number of real and serious concerns as we head into the 2016 regular session of the legislature,” O’Dea said. “It was a pleasure to get to talk to residents about some of the important issues that face us, as we get ready to start the work that begins early next month.”

Anyone who was unable to attend but would like to speak with Lavielle or O’Dea can reach them by contacting Tom.Odea@housegop.ct.gov or Gail.Lavielle@housegop.ct.gov. Boucher can be reached by contacting Toni.Boucher@cga.ct.gov.
