FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A 9-acre estate and six-bedroom home that once belonged to composer Richard Rodgers — and was designed and built by him — has come on the market in Fairfield.

The house was conceived and built by Rodgers, who composed more than 900 songs and songs for 43 Broadway musicals. Some shows with music by Rodgers include The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Oklahoma and Cinderella. His wife, Dorothy, wrote about the construction of the Fairfield home in her book, "The House in my Head." The residence has been renovated by its current owners with extra care taken to retain the home's original glamour and elegance.

Innovative design features showcase the park-like property from every room, grandeur enhanced by soaring ceilings and large open spaces that create an airy, and wonderfully inviting environment. The home includes an oversized chef's kitchen with two islands,  white marble countertops, crisp white cabinets and hardwood floors.
