The Horsemen held the Blue Devils to negative yardage through nearly three full quarters. Saunders picked up its first positive yardage and first down with just 13 seconds left in the third quarter.

“We know that we can really come rally to the ball and just play hard on defense,” said Sleepy Hollow senior defensive Ezekiel Sierra, who recorded 3.5 sacks in the game. “We don’t think our defense is down to anything. We think we can do anything.”

Senior fullback Ronniel Munoz rushed for three touchdowns in the win, including a 40-yard burst in the second quarter. As most runners do, he credited his offensive line after the game.

“Honestly, I didn’t do much of the job,” Munoz said. “It was the line. The line did their jobs. They just opened up those big holes and I went through them. I did the easy job.”

Sleepy Hollow must now turn around quickly and play a semifinal game on Tuesday against the winner of the Panas-Brewster game. Fortunately, the Horsemen were able to put their second unit in during the fourth quarter to give the starters some rest.

Head coach Steve Borys said the team is in new territory, as it will have to win twice more in the next 10 days to capture the section championship.

“We’ve never encountered anything like this so it’s a brave new world,” Borys said. “We’re going to try to get them as much as rest as we can.”
