Man Sentenced In Shooting Death Of 22-Year-Old Peekskill Resident

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A 25-year-old Peekskill resident was sentenced to 15 years in state prison for killing a man on Park Street last December.

Janiel Myke was sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the first degree, (a Class B violent felony), in the shooting death of Stephen Agosto of Peekskill.

Myke shot Agosto three times with a stolen handgun in front of 1431 Park Street, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. The 22-year-old Agosto was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Myke was arrested two days later and police determined Agosto and Myke had had a long standing dispute, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office

An autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner’s office revealed that the victim suffered a fatal bullet wound to the head and a bullet wound to each of his legs, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.

Myke had faced a maximum of 25 years in state prison.
