Benefit Boosts City Students

Michelle and Ed Barnes of Wilton recently hosted more than 140 guests at their home to benefit A Better Chance of Wilton, a program that helps inner city students get a quality education.

The evening was dubbed "Education the Key to America and Our World's Future" and included hors d'oeuvres, dancing, a silent auction and a presentation by Ray Chambers. An alumnus of ABC of Wilton and Brown University, Chambers recently graduated from the Harvard Business School.

ABC is a national program that refers academically talented inner city students to better school districts. It was founded in 1994 and has sent 22 students to some of the nation's top colleges and universities.

"Our aim is to help students understand and appreciate that learning is a life-long journey that grows with many fruitful and engaging experiences, especially those that make a difference in the lives of others," ABC of Wilton's president, Marylynn Clune, says on the organization's web site.
