She begins her new job on Jan. 19, the Greenwich Public Schools announced Thursday.

Carley, who began teaching in Greenwich in 1996, has served in an administrative role at Glenville School since 2009.

"It has been an honor to serve the students and families of Glenville School for the past two decades and to work with such dedicated professionals through the years," she said. "I appreciate the opportunities afforded to me as both a teacher and administrator during my time with the Greenwich Public Schools, and I will take many fond memories with me as I embark on a new adventure.”

Glenville School Principal Marc D'Amico praised Carley for her contribution to the school.

“Janean has embodied all of the qualities of an effective leader,” D’Amico said. “Over her tenure as assistant principal, she strived to redefine the position so that she could showcase her talents as an instructional leader. She will be missed greatly for all of her contributions and years of dedicated service to the greater Glenville community.”

An interim assistant principal will be identified to fill the position through the end of the current school year. The search for a new assistant principal for Glenville School will begin immediately.

Carley began as an elementary classroom teacher with the Greenwich Public Schools at Glenville School in 1996. Over the next 13 years, she taught grades 3 and 5 and also served as a grade-level leader. She assumed leadership roles throughout her teaching career, piloting new programs and curriculum, acting as a Learning Facilitator for the school, participating on District committees, and working with administration and parents in the building of and transition to a newly constructed school.

In 2009, Carley was appointed assistant principal of Glenville School, with responsibilities, including supervising staff, acting as assessment coordinator, overseeing special education, developing service opportunities for students, managing the master schedule, coordinating professional learning, and participating in the development of the school improvement plan. She also assumed the responsibilities of the principal in his absence as necessitated by his role as lead principal for the district.

Carley received a bachelor of arts in special education and elementary education from Providence College in Providence, R.I., in 1996; a master of professional studies in reading and writing from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., in 2000; and an educational leadership certification from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield in 2007.
