The scholarship is intended for students who will be taking any of the workshops at the playhouse during 2015. The fund was established in memory of Bruce Becker, a late member of the playhouse's Board of Directors.

It covers the cost of educational programs, allowing children and adults to take classes in the performing arts. Making the arts accessible to everyone, no matter their finances, is a vital element of the playhouse's mission and something Becker believed in.

The Arts for Everyone program, where tickets are donated to nonprofits, Title I schools and families in low-income areas, is another example of this.

The playhouse's workshops for the first three months of 2015 cover a range of arts.

There's songwriting with Kevin Briody, which starts on Wednesday, Jan. 7, and runs for eight weeks. Tuition is $240.

Other upcoming workshops include Stand-up Comedy with Christine O’Leary on Monday, Feb. 2; Introduction to Screenwriting with Katie Torpey on Thursday, Feb. 19; and Speaking Fearlessly with journalist Ira Joe Fisher on March 24.

Students who cannot afford the tuition can apply for a scholarship by emailing Suzanne Brennan at suzanne@ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
