Students Meet Colleges At Ridgefield-Wilton Fair

WILTON, Conn. — Students from Ridgefield and Wilton talked to admissions officers from more than 200 colleges at a Wilton High School fair.

It was the ultimate match making event, introducing prospective college students to a vast number of potential colleges. It was also the ideal opportunity for sophomore and junior high school students to preview colleges and start making a list of possible schools.

For the high school seniors, who are in the midst of filling out applications, the college fair was a chance to meet face to face with the regional admissions representatives to express interest, ask a few more questions, and perhaps whittle down the college list.

Siobhan Deacy, a Wilton High School senior who attended the fair said, “The College Fair helped me decide where I will apply.”

College representatives stood behind tables loaded with brochures as they fielded questions from eager Wilton and Ridgefield high school students and their parents. Sarah Yard, assistant director of admissions at Southern Vermont College in Bennington, Vt., said, “I encourage students to consider my college. I went there myself and I want others to have the same great experience.”

The colleges at the fair included private and state colleges, and schools as near as the University of Connecticut and as far as University of St. Andrews, Scotland. The Culinary Institute of America and the United States Armed Forces also attended the fair.

The college fair is a joint partnership between Wilton and Ridgefield High schools. The fair is held annually at the Wilton High School field house.
