Superintendent Kevin Smith sent a letter home to parents discussing the issue and differentiating between viral meningitis and bacterial meningitis, the Wilton Bulletin said.

There is no cure for viral meningitis, but it is rarely fatal. The Wilton Bulletin also provided a list of symptoms to watch out for:

  • Fever;
  • Severe headache;
  • Stiff neck;
  • Sensitivity to bright light;
  • Sleepiness or trouble waking up;
  • Nausea and vomiting; and
  • Lack of appetite.

Regular hand washing and not sharing utensils are the best way to prevent spreading the infection, the Wilton Bulletin said.
