WILTON, Conn. Students at Wilton's Middlebrook Middle School science fair on Tuesday were hoping their projects would be chosen for the state contest.
Seventh-grader Kevin Moya impressed the judges with his project on improving the efficiency of solar energy, winning him "best of fair."
The project was inspired by his mother's work for nonprofits, Moya said. I got thinking we could put solar cells everywhere, especially in places such as Africa where energy is needed, he said.
Sixth-grader Emilie McCann won second place in the "Life Sciences" section for her work on how fertilizer affects plant and animal life in water.
In our backyard there is a creek, McCann said, and she found that there was no plant or animal life. We think its because the people before us overdosed on fertilizer.
