Wilton's Our Lady Of Fatima Walkathon Helps Local Food Banks

WILTON, Conn. -- A portion of the $16,000 proceeds from the "Saints Walkathon" at Our Lady of Fatima School was donated to two local food banks.

Recipients were Food Pantry at Comstock Community Center at 180 School Road, Wilton and Open Door Shelter at 4 Merritt St., Norwalk.

The October Walkathon drew hundreds of participants to school grounds, among students, staff, parents, families and parishioners. The initiative followed the school's objective of putting "Service above self" so 10 percent of the proceeds was given to the food bank.

In addition to the cash donation, the school collected supplies for the food banks.

"They are so excited to be able to help out the communities, which have supported us over the years. It is especially important during the holiday season, which can be so difficult for struggling families," said Our Lady of Fatima School Principal, Stan Steele, of the students.

As a reward for the $16,000 raised, Pastor Reggie Norman and Steele entertained the kids by wearing chicken costumes and performing the "Chicken Dance" in two lunch periods recently.
