Darien, New Canaan Are 3-4 In Latest MaxPreps' Rankings

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Darien fell to third and New Canaan sits fourth in the latest state football rankings compiled by MaxPreps.

Shelton took over the top spot in Connecticut, followed by Southington. Darien (7-0) and New Canaan (6-0) are next, followed by Newtown (7-0).

Darien beat Ridgefield, 50-23, on Friday while New Canaan defeated Staples, 35-2, also on Friday.

Fairfield Prep (5-2)  climbed four spots to seventh with a 51-28 win over previously unbeaten Cheshire. Colton Smith had a huge game for the Jesuits, passing for 342 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 221 yards and two scores. Smith is ranked fifth in the state in total yards and has rushed for 13 touchdowns and thrown for 10 others.

Greenwich (14th), Brien McMahon (15), Danbury (31), Trinity Catholic (32), Stamford (36) and Staples (39) are also ranked among the state’s Top 50.

Among the most interesting games this weekend is Saturday’s contest between New Canaan and St. Joseph of Trumbull. The Cadets (6-1) are ranked sixth in the state by MaxPreps.

New Canaan is currently ranked No. 1 in the race for the Class L playoffs, while Darien is fourth. McMahon is ranked fifth in Class LL, and Fairfield Prep is ranked sixth.
