WILTON, Conn. The Wilton High boys swimming and diving team jumped out to an early lead against perennial powerhouse Greenwich, but couldn't hold on. Sean Higgins and Tommy Kealy both had a big afternoon for Wilton, but the Cardinals won the final five events to overtake the Warriors. Greenwich remains undefeated this season with a 97-73 victory over Wilton.
Wilton kicked off the afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:45.15 finish by Bob McDowell, Max Bloom, Sean Higgins and Tommy Kealy. That followed with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (Mason Molina, 1:52.33), the 200-yard individual medley (Higgins, 2:03.97), the 50-yard freestyle (Kealy, 22.92), the 100-yard butterfly (Higgins, 55.66) and the 100-yard freestyle (Kealy, 50.43).
Greenwich managed to grab second place in all of those races, however, and stayed hot on Wiltons tail. With his team trailing by only two points, Greenwichs Thomas Dillinger edged Molina by .36 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle to give the Cardinals a lead they would not relinquish.
Greenwich took first and third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay for 10 crucial points. The Cardinals pulled away with wins in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke and sealed the win with first- and second-place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Wilton takes on Staples on Monday at 3:45 p.m. at the Staples High School pool.
