Norwalk's Kiera Henry, Wilton's Emily McCann and Newtown's Faith Hathaway achieved the recognition with the Fairfield County Hounds Pony Club at Shady Hill Farm in Newtown. To earn the certification, the girls passed an examination that tested their riding and horse knowledge.
"Every member in Pony Club starts out as unrated and progresses through U.S. Pony Club 'Standards of Proficiency' at a pace that’s comfortable for them," representatives said. "During a test, members' skills and knowledge are tested against the Standards of Proficiency which outline the expectations to be met at each level in each of the following three sections - Horse Management, Riding on Flat and Riding over Fences with every level becoming more difficult than the preceding one."
The top certification level is the "A level" and is reached by fewer than one in 300 and denotes throughout the international horse industry a highly competent and knowledgeable horseperson, according to the release.
