Gymnasts Win Blizzard Of Titles At Snowflake Invitational In Wilton

DARIEN, Conn. — There may not have been any snow on the ground, but Darien YMCA Gymnasts brought home enough snowflake-shaped medals from the Wilton YMCA Snowflake Invitational last month to make their own blizzard.

The YMCA gym also has a snowy coating of team championship banners with 6 levels taking first place. Fifteen gymnasts won All Around titles for their age groups and levels. 

The snowflake collection started with the team champion Level 3s. In the 6-8 age group, Sophie Root won the beam and floor titles and placed third AA. 

Anna Altier led the 9s group, winning the vault and AA titles with 36.90. Ava Licata secured first on bars and floor, where she scored 9.75, took second AA and tied Sydney Berk for second on vault. Berk was the beam champ, placed third on floor and AA and fourth on bars.  

In the 10s group, Abigail O’Brien captured the titles on bars, beam and AA with 36.80, placed third on vault and tied Tanner Generoso for second on floor. Generoso also took second on beam and AA. 

In the 12 and up age group, Stephanie Carrillo placed second on beam and floor and third on vault and AA while Meredith Marra was second on both vault and bars. 

The flurries continued as the Level 4s secured the team championship. Lauren Smith stormed to the titles on vault, beam, AA and floor in the 8-9 group. Alexia Buchesky took second on bars, beam and AA. Ali Kolman was third in AA. 

In the 11s, Olivia Perkins soared to first on floor and placed fourth on vault, bars and beam and second AA. Brooke Romano took second on vault and beam, sixth on floor, seventh on bars and third AA. 

Maggie Russell was the vault champ in the 12s, placed third on floor and fourth on beam and AA. 

In the 13 and up group, Tetyana Banaryk was the vault champ, took second on beam and floor and third AA. 

The Level 5s won the team championship by a margin of nearly eight points and shoveled up a blizzard of medals, led by Nadia Borja in the 9-10s group where she was second on vault and took the bars, beam, floor and AA titles. 

Sofia DeStefano won vault, placed third on bars and second on beam and AA. Abigail Nevin was second on bars, third on beam and AA. 

Isabella DeStefano was the AA champ in the 11s with third on vault, first on beam, and floor and tied for first on bars with Gabriela Pye. Gabriela was also second on vault, fourth on beam and floor and third AA. Caterina Pye was the vault champ as well as fourth on bars and second on beam, floor and AA. 

Emma Neaderland was the 12s AA champ, flipping to first on floor and placing second on bars and third on vault. Lucy Collins earned first on beam, third on bars and second on vault and AA. 

In the 13 and up group, Kerry McDermott captured the titles on vault, beam and AA. 

The snowstorm continued with the Level 6s winning the team title. Kate Wolters topped the podium in the 10-11 group for beam, vault and AA. Tori Ware won the bars title, placed third on beam and floor and second on vault and AA. 

In the 12s, Holly McGoldrick captured the vault, bars and AA titles. Dillan Aysseh was second on vault and third on bars, beam and AA. 

Kellie Arevalo led the Level 7 team champs, taking the vault, beam and floor titles in the Senior age group with 36.25 AA and placing second on bars and floor. Jane Ogden was champ on bars and placed third on all other events. 

In the Junior group, Allie Trotman placed third on vault, bars and AA and second on beam. 

In the Level 8 Junior group, Nikki Carlo won first on bars, beam, floor and AA. Gianna Cardini was the vault champ and placed third on bars, floor and AA. 

The Level 9s brought home the last team title. In the Senior group, Sam Aparicio and Jessica Freiheit took turns on the top of the podium, starting with a tie for the vault title, then Freiheit won on bars, beam and AA while Aparicio won floor with 9.2.
