The competition will be held this week at Sacramento State University in California. Simon qualified by winning the Connecticut championship in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles in June and placing third in both events at the Region 1 championship held in Albany earlier this month. Simon competes in the 17-18-year-old age group.

Simon established a personal record in the 400M hurdles, running a 68.98 in the event at the Connecticut Association meet. She trains with the Wilton-based Connecticut Elite Track and Field Club and is also a standout athlete for the Ridgefield High School track team.

“Jo’s high school training was a little more endurance-based this past season so we decided to build on that and emphasize the 400 hurdles” said CT Elite coach Kevin Foley. “It paid off. It takes significant ability to double in those events because they are different, technique-wise. Jo is quite an athlete."

Simon also placed seventh in the 200M dash in an outdoor PR time of 26.74 in the finals at the Region 1 meet.
