Wilton 4 White Thumps Another Darien Team

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton 4th Grade White football team beat a Darien team for the third straight week as it rolled to a 33-12 victory over the Darien Wave in the Fairfield County Football League.

Wilton, which beat Darien White and Darien Blue in its previous two games, forced the Wave to punt after just three plays. Two plays later, Wilton scored on a 42-yard touchdown run by halfback Drew Phillips. Cooper Heinemann, Griffin Morris and Niko Kouvaris delivered key blocks.   The Warriors employed a little razzle-dazzle for the extra point as quarterback Ryan Healey pitched to Phillips, who rolled right and threw back to Healey in the end zone for the one point conversion. ,

The Warrior defensive front of Nick Sheehan, Patrick Coulter, Jack Santomero, Tate Falta, Morris and Trent Hollings dominated Darien forcing another punt.  On Wilton’s next offensive play, the Warriors took to the air again, with Phillips hitting Heinemann on a 25-yard touchdown pass to put Wilton up 13-0 at the end of the first quarter. After another defensive stop, Wilton’s offensive line of Eric Zhang, Dean Griffin, Stephen Kendra, D.J. DiCostanzo, Camilo Galeano and Heinemann again took charge.  Ben Leung and Matt LaManna ran right at Darien and moved the ball steadily down the field until LaManna broke off a beautiful 26 yard run, breaking tackles all the way for another Wilton score.  Leung added the two point conversion to make the score 21-0.

Despite tough line play by Erik Lebek, Oliver Shulman, Santomero, Falta, Coulter and Sheehan, Darien managed a long run for a touchdown.  The extra point was denied by linebackers Austin Andersen and Kouvaris as Wilton built a 21-6 halftime lead.

The second half was more of the same.  After intermission, Matt LaManna, Leung and Kouvaris took turns running the ball, driving to the Darien 9.  On the next play, quarterback Ryan Healey took the snap and swept to his right directly at a blitzing Darien linebacker.  Healey broke the tackle in the backfield and bulled his way up the sideline into the end zone to put the Warriors up 27-6.

In the fourth quarter, after more great defense by Cole Stephenson, Dominick  Caratozzolo, Leung, DiCostanzo and Heinemann, the Warriors took possession again.  On the first play quarterback Stephenson handed to Leung, who raced through a hole, faked right and turned on the jets to blow past the Darien defenders for a 49-yard touchdown run, making the score 33-6.

Darien tacked on a late score to make it 33-12. Ryan Healey’s huge stopped Darien the extra point.

Wilton White now sits atop the league, tied with Wilton Blue, at 4-0.
