Wilton 6th Grade Boys Basketball Team Falls In League Semifinals

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton 6th grade boys basketball team won two games in the season-ending Fairfield County Basketball League tournament before seeing its season ended by Weston.

Wilton beat Newtown, 27-23, in its first tournament game. Chase Autore's three-point basket in the fourth quarter helped to change the momentum of the game. Sam Strazza also hit a big three-pointer, and Alex Cocoros hit a key free throw.

In a 43-39 win over West Haven in the quarterfinals, Wilton played one of its best games of the season. Matt Gulbin, Matt Murphy and Michael Coffey controlled the glass. Jimmy McKiernan was steady on the free throw line while Andrew Rubsam played with his heart on defense.

Against Weston, Wilton jumped out to an 8-0 lead, highlighted by a three-pointer by Strazza. Weston took the lead in the second quarter before Wilton rallied behind Owen Lillis and Autore, who each hit three-pointers to give the lead back to Wilton. Weston eventually prevailed in double overtime.

Wilton finished the season 19-14. Weston will meet Madison in the 6 Boys A East championship game.
