WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton White seventh-grade football team came into Wednesday’s Fairfield County Football League semifinal against Fairfield confident it could solve the league’s toughest defense. Wilton moved the ball at times, but it could not reach the end zone, losing, 8-0.

“We had a chance to make one or two plays that we almost scored on,’’ Wilton coach Kurt Schneider said. “If we could’ve scored on either of them, it’s a much different game.”

Schneider knew his team would have its hands full with Fairfield, which has posted six shutouts this season. And although Wilton moved the ball at times, it had trouble sustaining drives against the Wildcats.

Fairfield’s only touchdown came on an interception return in the third quarter. It also added a safety late in the game.

Wilton played tough defensively, and forced three turnovers. Its defense also came up with a huge goal line stand midway through the fourth quarter to help keep it a one-possession game.

Wilton kept battling into the fourth  quarter, and had possession in Fairfield territory. On its last possession, Wilton started deep in its own territory and Fairfield held.

“We played them last year, so we know that they’re all about defense,’’ Schneider said. “It’s always tough against them. I thought we had a good game plan coming in, and if we made those plays, it might have been different. We had a great season. I’m proud of the way we battled these guys.”
