Wilton 7th Grade Girls Basketball Team Falls In Tournament Semifinals

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton 7th grade girls basketball team saw its season come to an end with a hard-fought 46-33 loss to Southbury in the semifinals of the Fairfield County Basketball League tournament.

Wilton advanced to the semifinals with a 32-21 win over Westport. Wilton jumped out to a halftime lead of 16-9 on the hot shooting of Paula Perez, who finished the game with 8 points. Nancy Lynch was a force on the boards with eight rebounds and 4 points.

In the fourth quarter, Wilton pulled away with the strong inside play from Taylor LaMantia, Francesca Goncalves, Zara Wiest and Bryn Burke. Zoe Rappaport, Ashley Cotman and Anna Breen contributed key rebounds and assists to spark Wilton's 4th quarter rally as it pulled away on their combined 10 points for the game. Sophie Sudano scored all of her 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Against Southbury, Wilton trailed 30-18 at the end of the third  quarter. Wilton rallied to get within four points but could not sustain the momentum. Sudano led the way with 14 points. 

Southbury advanced to play Fairfield in the tournament title game.
