Wilton Girls Open State Playoffs at Home

WILTON, Conn. - After a hard-fought run to its first conference semifinals in 16 years, the Wilton High School girls basketball team returns to the Class L state tournament for the second year in a row. The 10th-seeded Warriors open the state playoffs at home on Tuesday against 23rd ranked Foran at 7 p.m.

It is the highest Wilton has been ranked in the state tournament since 1996 when the Warriors were also the 10th seed. If the Warriors can come away with a victory on Tuesday they will travel to seventh-seeded Regional Hebron, Andover and Marlborough in the second round on Friday.

Wilton has already posted one of its best seasons in almost a decade, qualifying for its first conference tournament since 2003 and winning a conference playoff game for the first time since 1996. The Warriors defeated Norwalk in the quarterfinals, but fell to eventual champion Danbury in the semifinals.

Wilton is led by senior Maddy Fulton (12.2 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game) and juniors Casey Pearsall (11.8 PPG) and Alyssa Malvarossa (9.2 RPG). Wilton has also received significant help from its freshmen off the bench this season.
