WILTON, Conn. The Wilton High School girls soccer team fell 2-0 on the seasons final day at a cold and wet Darien High field on Thursday. The Warriors had already locked up a conference playoff berth, but were hoping to get a higher seed. Darien needed a win to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.
Ten minutes into the contest against Darien, Mareike Bravo headed in a bounding ball sent in by Dillon Schoen. Darien then had to hold off the Warriors for 70 more minutes on an increasingly slick field in a freezing, driving drizzle.
Catie Dee added an insurance goal for the Blue Wave with 5:43 to play in the game off a free kick from Ellie Bennett. As the final seconds ticked off, the Darien players rushed the field to celebrate the victory that rocketed them to the fifth seed in the conference tournament.
With the loss Wilton settles for the six seed and will have to take on a very tough Westhill team (11-1-4) on the road on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
