Wilton LL Baseball Falls In District 1 Title Game

WILTON, Conn. — The Wilton 9-10-year-old Little League All-Star baseball team battled back from a 7-0 deficit Saturday, but errors in the field ultimately sank the never-say-die crew, 12-9, in the district championship final against North Stamford.

Wilton committed three errors in the fourth inning, allowing North Stamford to score the three deciding runs.

After quickly falling behind 7-0 after one inning, Wilton stormed right back in the top of the second. Wilton took advantage of two North Stamford errors and three walks to send 10 batters to the plate in the inning. Parker Ward provided the big blow with a two-run double as Wilton cut North Stamford’s lead to 7-6.

North Stamford extended its lead to 9-6, but Wilton answered again with a two-run home run over the left-center field wall by Kyle Hyzy. A bases-loaded fielder’s choice tied the game at 9-9.

But North Stamford changed its game plan in the bottom of the fourth, using small ball to create chaos in the field. Four bunts in the inning led to three Wilton errors, as North Stamford took the lead for good on three unearned runs.

North Stamford’s T.J. Wainright shut the door on Wilton, striking out the last four batters he faced to end the game.

Despite scoring nine runs as a team, Hyzy and Regan Kahal were the only Wilton players to collect more than one hit.
