The annual charity event benefits Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, an organization that provides outstanding tennis and developmental programs supporting Norwalk's inner-city youth.

It is open to all high school students and will be played at Longshore Park in Westport and Weston Field Club. The tournament was conceived and inaugurated in 2008 and raised over $3,000. And it raised over $25,000 in 2013.

The registration fee for the tournament is $75 per player and includes breakfast, lunch, trophies and giveaways from the organization’s supporters.

Tennis players from all high schools are welcome. The format will be boys and girls doubles, both divided into Varsity and JV brackets.

Participating high schools include:

  • Staples High School
  • Greenwich Academy
  • Greenwich High School

The 2015 turnout is expected to be strong, with more than 300 invitees from local high schools from all over southwestern Connecticut.

“The response has been so strong and new schools are added every year,” said Will Andrews, one of the co-chairpersons. “All of the participants feel so strongly about helping to raise money for such a worthy cause and feel fortunate doing so by playing a sport they love. The play is quite competitive but also a lot of fun.”

"The Autumn Classic is a tremendous boost to Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, bringing together generous long-time supporters while continuing to attract first-time donors to our program,” said Art Goldblatt, founder and president emeritus of Norwalk Grassroots Tennis. “With the enthusiastic and generous support of the community, we can continue to change the lives of Norwalk’s youth for generations to come."
