WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton under-12 girls' soccer team participated in a recent Columbus Day tournament with the following results:
Wilton White 3, Ridgefield Orange 2
Wilton White participated in the SCOR Columbus Day Tournament this past Sunday in Ridgefield and battled through four long matches.
Riley Milhoua started things off with a goal into the far left corner of the net, beating the hosting Ridgefield keeper. Just before the half ended, Marygrace DelliSanti tallied two more goals to give the team a healthy 3-0 bulge at the break.
Victoria Fox was impenetrable in the net catching, clearing and stonewalling several Ridgefield rushes and scoring opportunities. Also standing out all game on defense was Maddie Pfeiffer, who consistently stifled Ridgefield's rushes with timely attacks of the ball and clears to safety.
New Canaan Black 1, Wilton White 0
The second game versus New Canaan Black was tightly contested throughout as first-half goalie Alexis Castaldi stood her ground on a late penalty kick preserving the scoreless tie at the break.
Wilton had its best scoring opportunity midway through the second half when Brielle Flavin streaked down the left side and just misfired on a shot that seemed destined for a hard landing just inside the left post. Milhoua was stellar in goal the second half, but did allow the game-winning goal.
The final two contests against Newtown and La Grange were mismatches from the outset.
