Pearsall, who is the Wilton Daily Voice’s Athlete of the Month for December, was also one of the finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, which honors the best male and female high school sports stars.
“It’s truly an amazing honor to be with so many amazing kids,” said Pearsall, 17, a senior at Wilton High School and a star on the school’s lacrosse, soccer and basketball teams. “I’m so fortunate for them to have picked me.”
Pearsall traveled to New York City two weeks ago for the ceremony, where she met with other High School Heisman finalists and attended the Heisman Trophy ceremony. She and the others toured the city and were interviewed about their athletic success and future endeavors.
“It’s definitely motivating to be recognized in a national light. It makes you want to keep doing what you’re doing,” she said.
Pearsall’s favorite sport and primary focus will be lacrosse, and she will attend the University of Notre Dame to play on the Irish women’s lacrosse squad. Her father, Steve, played for the men’s lacrosse team at Notre Dame and is coach of the Wilton boys’ lacrosse squad.
But before she suits up for the Irish, she and her Wilton Warriors lacrosse teammates want to win that elusive state championship. Wilton made it to the state title game last spring before falling to New Canaan.
While the end of last season was disappointing, Pearsall said she and her teammates are ready to finish the seniors’ final year on a high note.
“We want to make it all count and hopefully win a state title,” she said.
For all the athletic accolades, Pearsall says she’s the same girl.
“Other people might see (me) and say that ‘Oh, Casey is a great athlete.’ But I’m still the same person I was before,” she said.
