WILTON, Conn. – Chelsea LeVander, one of the best gymnasts in Wilton High School history, will be among the honorees Monday at the eighth annual Fairfield County Sports Night Hall of Fame dinner at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich as Wilton's Sports Person of the Year.
LeVander put the wraps on a superb career this past winter and solidified her legacy as one of the elite in the history of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
She was just a sophomore when she won her first FCIAC all-around championship. LeVander maintained that consistency, improved and defended her all-around titles the next two years to become a three-time conference champion. During her junior year, LeVander led the Warriors to their first conference crown since 1997. In February, she helped them repeat as the team champion. LeVander swept all four events at the FCIAC Gymnastics Championships during her last two years.
LeVander set school records in three individual events, including a 9.95 in the uneven bars, a 9.8 in the balance beam and a 9.7 in the floor exercise. She also set the Wilton High all-around record with a score of 38.4.
LeVander was also the runner-up at the CIAC State Open for the second straight year and an Elite All-American this year. She was named All-FCIAC all four years of her high school career, a YMCA state/regional Level 8 champion three straight years, a YMCA national Level 8 champion in 2010 and was MSG Varsity's FCIAC Gymnast of the Year in 2012.
Tickets are still available for the dinner, which begins at 6 p.m. For information contact Tom Chiappetta at 203-984-4806 or tomchip21@aol.com.
