Wooster Girls Basketball Team Tips Off In New England Tournament

DANBURY, Conn. -- Wooster School’s varsity girls basketball team has been selected to compete in the  New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class E Tournament.

Danbury's Wooster, 15-1, won the Hudson Valley League Championship with a 55-40 win over Marvelwood. Wooster's only loss this season is a 35-34 setback to Chase Collegiate on Jan. 28. Wooster is the defending NEPSAC Tournament champion.

Wooster will host the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 4 seed Providence Country Day School and No. 5 seed Marvelwood on Saturday, March 7, at noon in the Forever Young Gymnasium. The winner will advance to the championships to be held Sunday, March 8, at 10:30 am at Loomis Chaffee. 

The other teams in the tournament are No. 2 seed Covenant Christian Academy and No. 3 Poughkeepsie Day School. 

Wooster's roster includes seniors Melanie Hodor of Katonah, Taylor Milana of Danbury, Shauna Vines of Bethel, and Blair Hamilton of Newtown; sophomores Sueann Barsh of Somers, Ava Cohn of Bedford Corners, Sarah Fried of Redding, Rebecca Kohn of Danbury and Venus Okwuka of Brookfield; and freshman Caylynn  Maldonado of Ridgefield, Morgan McCutcheon of Danbury and Brittany Reid of New Milford. David MacNutt is the team's coach.
